Campaign to educate on the correct use of antibiotics
The Government launches a national campaign to remind doctors of the problem of antibiotic resistance and to make clear to patients that antibiotics will not get rid of the common cold.

Diagnosis and Principles of Management of MRSA Infections Presenting in the Community: Guidelines for UK Practice
Guidelines have been produced by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, which are currently available for open consultation. Consultation guidelines and a response form can be downloaded at www.bsac.org.uk under "News" section. To contribute to the BIS response, please send comments to Frances Sanderson, CSC@britishinfectionsociety.org by Thurs 1 November 2007. Comments can be made directly to BSAC until 8 November 2007.
Specialist advisers needed to work on Technical Patient Safety Solutions pilot project on ventilator associated pneumonia. 19/06/07
NICE have asked the BIS to nominate 3 specialist advisors for a project on ventilator associated pneumonia, which runs from April to November 2007 and may require attendance at a meeting on September 5th in London. If interested please contact the secretary Martin Wiselka.

Standards for HIV clinical care 20/03/07
A new report by the British HIV Association, Royal College of Physicians, British Association for Sexual Health and HIV and British Infection Society sets out standards for HIV Clinical Care. The report was launched at the Royal College of Physicians on 20 March 2007. For press release click here.
