Dr. David Dockrell is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and trained in Ireland and the United States at the Mayo Clinic. He is a Wellcome Senior Clinical Fellow and Reader in Infectious Diseases at the University of Sheffield. His research group focuses on the host response to infectious diseases with a particular emphasis on macrophage immunology. He is a consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield and has specific interests in HIV medicine and infections in immunocompromised hosts. He is a member of the BIS guidelines group

I qualified in Medicine from the University of Cambridge having ‘intercalated’ a PhD into my studies. After junior hospital jobs in London I became an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellow at the Hammersmith Hospital London, where I completed my training in Infectious Diseases and became a Consultant in 1996. I remained at the Hammersmith until 2003 when I moved to my current position as Professor of Molecular Microbiology at the University of Glasgow. Despite my title, I am not a microbiologist!

I have been a Consultant Microbiologist at University Hospitals South Manchester NHS FT since October 2003. My undergraduate training was in Glasgow and included elective studies in Zimbabwe and Swaziland. I completed the DTM&H course in Liverpool in 1994, following which I worked in Infectious Diseases and other medical specialties. I did my Microbiology training in Aberdeen and Manchester, including a research project in Tanzania. My professional interests include tuberculosis, intensive care and cystic fibrosis.

Since 2002 I have been a Consultant Microbiologist at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, prior to that I held Consultant Microbiologist posts in Hull and Paisley. My training in Microbiology was in Liverpool, Birmingham and Glasgow and I graduated in Medicine from Liverpool University

After qualifying from Cambridge, I did SHO posts in Nottingham and London (Royal Free) followed by PhD and SpR training in Cambridge and Singapore. Currently I am a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Infectious Diseases based in Middlesbrough/Durham University, and my main research interests is HIV infection.

Steve Green is Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine in Sheffield. An Englishman, his undergraduate and postgraduate years were spent in Scotland, prior to his moving back down to Sheffield England in 1995. Steve is an Honorary Professor at Sheffield Hallam University and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Sheffield University. He is a keen educator and trainer, running an MSc in International & Travel Health and an informal DTM&H course preparing SHOs and Registrars externally for the RCPLondon version of the exam. He is a regular host MRCP(UK) examiner, a regular visiting PACES examiner both in the UK and overseas, a former SQG member of the MRCP(UK) question preparation group, and is now on the board of the new Faculty of Travel Medicine’s group working on the RCPSGlasgow Diploma in Travel Medicine. For a number of years, he was Chair of the BSI’s Blood-Borne Virus group, and he has been a frequent columnist for the BSI newsletter.
